We are seeking a dependable, live-in dog caretaker for short-term assignments at Castles for Underdogs Home Sanctuary. This position requires a commitment of 7-8 days (or potentially up to 2 weeks) per assignment, occurring 6 times throughout the year. The successful candidate will be responsible for the round-the-clock care and well-being of our sanctuary dogs, ensuring they receive attentive care, love, and exercise during these periods. This position is offered on a contractor basis, with compensation reported via a 1099 form.
Full-Time Care:
Provide comprehensive care for up to 13 dogs, including feeding, watering, and administering medications as prescribed
Maintain a clean and safe living environment for the dogs
Implement daily exercise and enrichment activities
Monitor and document each dog's behavior and health status
Respond promptly to any emergencies or health concerns
Daily Routines:
Follow established feeding and medication schedules
Clean and sanitize living areas, bowls, and play equipment
Conduct regular walks and supervised playtime
Provide grooming as needed
Behavioral Management:
Implement existing behavior modification plans for dogs with special needs
Ensure safe interactions between dogs during group activities
Provide mental stimulation and socialization
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed logs of daily activities, feeding, medications, and any notable events
Communicate effectively with sanctuary management about the dogs' well-being
Proven experience in caring for multiple dogs, preferably in a professional setting or multi-dog household
Strong understanding of dog behavior and body language
Ability to handle dogs of various sizes, breeds, and temperaments
Physical stamina for extended periods of dog care activities
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Compassionate attitude and genuine love for animals
Reliable and responsible, with a strong commitment to animal welfare
Flexibility to live on-site for the duration of each assignment
Basic computer skills for record-keeping purposes
